Well, I haven't been very active on here lately, but in my defence it's been a rather hectic week. Last week I spent two days at a really interesting conference on "Myth, Legend and Folklore", where I also gave a paper. A great couple of days, but very... very... tiring. I am not designed to stay alert and engaged all day.

And on the weekend I went to see the Manic Street Preachers, for the three billionth time. They were great, as always, and I was well impressed by The Joy Formidable. Sounded great, and the singer has awesome style (and awesome hair). A shame about the tall blokes who decided to elbow their way in front of us as soon as they started playing, but I guess that's par for the course at gigs... *le sigh*.

Anyway, um... here are a couple of outfits.

I've been looking for a new black circle skirt for a while, because my beloved but cheapo one from Select was getting ratty. Then I found this beauty on Etsy. I love the detail at the waist, but it's also quite plain, so made a good outfit for showing off an attention-seeking necklace like this one from Santa Macabre. Her stuff is lovely, and super reasonably priced; I most definitely recommend checking it out.

Everything in this photo except the tights is reeeeeallllly old, Jeez. I wore this to work and then to see Misty's Big Adventure (who were ace!) in the evening. The gig didn't finish until ten past midnight. Boy, am I glad I didn't wear heels...

And some more bonus cat. Poor moggy is all off her food and has to go to the vet's tomorrow. I predict a distinct lack of impressedness.

What I Wore Today

Well, I guess I may as well post something here, right? ;) Today I had been planning to go for a drink with my best mate, only to get a phone call in the morning saying that he was at the Royal Gwent (hospital) and had a perforated eardrum. Ouch! So I ended up feeling a little overdressed for a trip to Boots. But the day wasn't a complete waste. I popped in to see my friend when he got home from the hospital, and he managed to fix my broken digital camera for me (by means of judicious bashing), so I could take some photos in the garden.

I apologise for the glare on some of these! My photo-editing skills are sadly rubbish to non-existent.

I ordered these boots quite recently, after years of buying cheap high-street non-leather boots that fell apart after a couple of months' wear. Initially I was a little disappointed, as they arrived looking rather creased around the ankles; not really the kind of condition I expected for nearly £80! But after wearing them around town today, I've changed my mind. The pleather actually feels quite resilient, and they are really surprisingly comfy, even for someone as heel-inept as me.

Anyway, that's quite enough from me for now. Toodle-oo.

Or at least to write a fairly banal 'Hello there' post, anyway. I'm a PhD student, a library assistant, and a nerd. I live in Pontypool, South Wales, which is not unpleasant, but am assuredly a city girl at heart. I play the guitar in my bedroom, quite badly. I write short stories, some of which have even been published. (I have a writing blog here. There's nothing on it yet.) Apart from that, I enjoy dressing up--I would say fashion, but I'm not very fashionable--and cooking (and uncooking) delicious vegan things. Maybe I will even post some stuff about it here later.
